Vancouver, Canada (WNews)- A local woman visiting a Vancouver hotel had a shocking surprise that happened with the SkipTheDishes and it’s food delivery service. Last Thursday evening, February 21, 2019, around 4 p.m. Amber Marie ordered food as usual from the SkipTheDishes’s mobile app. According to her Facebook’s post, the order was from a local Thai Restaurant call Papaya Hut on Burrard Street.
According to Amber, the app showed her a map of the driver being at the hotel before it showed that it was at Papaya Hut. She told WNewsNetwork in a Facebook interview, she believes it ’s a glitch with the app.
The driver from SkipTheDishes picked up the order and took about an hour to get to her hotel room. When she asked the driver, why it took so long, the driver pretended he did not know English. After that, Amber give him $50 for a $40 bill including the tip. The driver didn’t have additional cash to give back for the difference. Note: SkipTheDishes has the option to pay by credit card or cash.
“When I went to check the food to see what it was, the boxes were filled with garbage, bubble tea, and there was a large bowl filled with liquids and paper towel and it smelled like urine.”- Amber Marie to WNews
After the driver’s accepted the payment, Amber notice that the order was not packaged right and tried to go after the driver who was gone already. So after she open the order, she noticed that the order was filed with garbage, bubble tea and there was a large bowl with liquid and paper towels. She noticed that the bowl and paper towel smell like urine.

After she noticed the smell, she contacted the support team which they mentioned that they were ’they were Sorry’ and couldn’t find the contact information for the driver. After that comment, they ended the chat which she got no response. Her order was cancelled after her chat with SkipTheDishes. She believes that the driver cancelled the order and still delivered with garbage and the bowl filled with urine.
Amber posted a video on Facebook to explain what happened. She wants compensation for the order she paid for an order that wasn’t delivered properly and wrong items. She also mentioned to WNewsNetwork, that there’s not much background checks for drivers.
We reached out both to Papaya Hut and SkipTheDishes for a Statement which they haven’t responded to the request by publication’s deadline. We will update the story if we get a statement from either parties.
Amber Marie’s Statement to WNewsNetwork (Edited for Grammar)
“I ordered Thai food from papaya hut in downtown Vancouver BC. On the skip the dishes app there is a map that shows where the driver is located. Over an hour later, the map showed that the delivery man was at my hotel before it showed that he was at the restaurant picking up my food. I’ve been a loyal customer to skip the dishes for a year now and never had serious problems before so I assumed maybe it was a glitch. He came up to the room and I asked him what took so long and he pretended to not speak English. He also said he didn’t have change so I ended up giving him $50 for a $40 bill including tip already. I could tell by how it was packaged that it wasn’t what I ordered so I tried to run after him but he was already gone. When I went to check the food to see what it was, the boxes were filled with garbage, bubble tea, and there was a large bowl filled with liquids and paper towel and it smelled like urine. I contacted the support chat right away and sent them photos. They told me they are sorry and that they don’t have contact info for him and then they ended our chat. I emailed pictures and videos to their support team and got no reply. I later checked the app and it says that my order was canceled so what I’m thinking is that the man who delivered my food canceled my order on his end somehow and then delivered me garbage and never actually went to the restaurant.”
