Vancouver, BC (WNews Weather) – After a cool and wet spring, the first week of Summer is expected to bring the hottest days so far this year for Vancouver and the valley.

According to Environment Canada’s long-term forecast, the pattern of rain is supposed to clear by Wednesday with sunny skies forecast starting Thursday.

Next weekend, the temperatures are expected to soar into the upper 20s/low 30s for highs.

While this heat won’t be compared to the record heat dome from last summer over 200 people died after recorded breaking temperatures hit the Lower Mainland and interior.

Sun and Heat Safely Tips

  • Avoid the hottest times of the day (11 am to 3 pm). Take frequent water breaks if working outdoors.
  • Wear sunscreen and reapply every two hours or after being in the water
  • Drink tons of water. Don’t drink alcohol or caffeinated drinks as that makes dehydration risk worst
  • Seek air conditioning. If you don’t have AC at home, head to the mall, movie theatres or a rec centre in your city. Most cities will set up a emergency cooling centre during extreme heat events. Check with your city’s website for locations and information.
