Since you were in your father’s custody and a permanent resident, you became a U.S. citizen the moment he naturalized. In some places, the law requires that the parents have a formal, legal separation. That rule does not apply in New York. The law changed Feb. 27, 2001, requiring that only one parent have U.S. citizenship, but you qualify under the old law.
