VICTORIA (WNEWS) — The Canadian government could be considering further loosening of restrictions, however authorities in B.C. say the area has some work to do before British Columbians pack their bags.
Talking to the media, Premier John Horgan said “I know the case counts are very favorable. Hospitalizations are down, immunizations are up. These are all at the objectives that we laid out in our restart plan; we’ll have more to say next week about going to the next stage,” He adds, “But it’s important to know that not every jurisdiction across the country has the same view on this matter. Some want to open up tomorrow. Others don’t want to open up until September. I think somewhere between those two poles is where we’ll land”.
He has indicated that the land boundary will probably return this mid-year, before September.
The government is set to make an announcement tomorrow on the lifting of restrictions at Canada-U.S. border, however, the government didn’t confirm this plan today, when authorities disclosed their arrangements to ease rules for fully vaccinated travellers into Canada via air. Travel is right now limited — both inside B.C. also, globally — for most insignificant travel. The next stage in the territory’s returning arrangement is set to reallow travel inside the region.
Minister Adrian Dix notes B.C. stays in stage one of its restart plan. The soonest the region will move into stage two is June 15, and he says decisions will be set based on the evidence. Dix says he hopes to see borders opening soon. He said, “That starts with immunizing the maximum number of people in B.C. It continues with continuing to follow provincial health guidance and provincial health orders here in B.C. And our expectation for the federal government is that they have the rules in place as they decide to ease restrictions to ensure that our province stays safe.”
Dix adds it’s imperative to consider there might be an introduction of cases as borders open up, so we need to get ready ahead of time.
