North Vancouver, B.C. (WNews) – The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has charged one man with murder in connection with a stabbing at a North Vancouver library on Saturday.

Police said Yannick Bandaogo, 28, has been charged with second-degree murder. His background, history in BC, and relationship to the victims is still being determined.

Bandaogo has undergone surgery for “self-inflicted wounds” and remains in police custody, media relations officer Sergeant Frank Jang said.

“This is a deeply profound and tragic incident that has shaken all of us,” said Inspector Michelle Tansey, IHIT’s Acting Officer-in-Charge.

“I commend our investigators and partners for the remarkable work they have done and continue to do under challenging circumstances. My sincere condolences to yesterday’s victims and their families and to all who have been affected by this crime.”

North Vancouver RCMP officers were called to the Lynn Valley Library around 1:40 pm on March 27 for reports of a stabbing.

Officers found six people suffering from stab wounds of “varying severity” in the library.

Following the horrific incident, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shared a statement, saying his “heart is in North Vancouver.”

One woman in her late twenties succumbed to her injuries, police said, and the other victims were taken to hospital for “non-life threatening” care.

One man was arrested on-scene. Video posted on social media shows police surrounding him on the street in front of the library.
