28 Year Old Male Charged With Murder after North Vancouver Stabbing

North Vancouver, B.C. (WNews) – The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has charged one man with murder in connection with a stabbing at a North Vancouver library on Saturday.

Police said Yannick Bandaogo, 28, has been charged with second-degree murder. His background, history in BC, and relationship to the victims is still being determined.

Bandaogo has undergone surgery for “self-inflicted wounds” and remains in police custody, media relations officer Sergeant Frank Jang said.

“This is a deeply profound and tragic incident that has shaken all of us,” said Inspector Michelle Tansey, IHIT’s Acting Officer-in-Charge.

North Vancouver RCMP officers were called to the Lynn Valley Library around 1:40 pm on March 27 for reports of a stabbing.

Officers found six people suffering from stab wounds of “varying severity” in the library.

Following the horrific incident, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shared a statement, saying his “heart is in North Vancouver.”

One woman in her late twenties succumbed to her injuries, police said, and the other victims were taken to hospital for “non-life threatening” care.

One man was arrested on-scene. Video posted on social media shows police surrounding him on the street in front of the library.
