One person is dead following a shooting in Nanaimo, B.C., on Thursday afternoon.

RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien said the shooting near the Rock City Centre shopping plaza was reported at around 3:30 p.m.

The victim was found dead inside a vehicle and several people were arrested in connection with the violence, O’Brien said.

Police don’t believe there is any further risk to the public, but have yet to say whether the shooting is gang-related.
