It’s been a year since provincial guidelines changed to allow doctors to prescribe hydromorphone to drug users as a safer alternative to toxic street drugs. But of the estimated 77,000 people in province diagnosed with opioid use disorder, just 3,329 people are receiving prescriptions, while overdose deaths continue to rise.
