B.C reporting 2,550 new cases & deaths of COVID19; significant new restrictions coming

Victoria, BC (WNews Vancouver) – B.C is reporting 2,550 new cases over 3 days and 3 new deaths.

Over a three-day period, B.C. is reporting 2,550 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 228,335 cases in the province:

There are 5,435 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 220,348 people who tested positive have recovered. Of the active cases, 185 individuals are in hospital and 77 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

In the last 72 hours, three new deaths have been reported, for an overall total of 2,402.

Over 60.6% (up 3.4% since Friday’s update) of the new cases reported over the past week are from fully vaccinated people while just 37.5% (down 3.3% since Friday) of new cases are from unvaccinated people.

The province is reporting that there are no new healthcare facility outbreaks. There is one active outbreak at Lions Gate Hospital (Vancouver Coastal Health).

At 1:30 pm tomorrow the province will announce significant restrictions. Health Minister Adrian Dix, Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth, and Dr. Bonnie Henry will provide updates. Farnworth has previously announced state of emergencies and travel bans.

The new restrictions will come in addition to the new orders that come into effect today which last until January 31, 2022.
