We’ll see you at Christmas.

It was October 2011 and Candy Greff was standing outside a restaurant in Morinville, Alta., saying goodbye to her son Byron Greff. Little did she know that it would be the last time she would see him alive.

A 28-year-old master corporal with the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry based out of Edmonton, Alta., Byron was heading back to Afghanistan following a brief visit home to see the birth of his daughter, Brielle.
