Can vaccines be mixed?

VANCOUVER (WNEWS) – Today, pharmacies across B.C. are expecting to receive new supplies of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine. These doses are reserved specifically for people who have already taken the AstraZeneca / Covishield shot and choose to receive a second dose. B.C. pharmacies are supposed to contact recipients of the first AstraZeneca shot in eight weeks to set a date for their second shot.

The province announced in May that due to limited supply it was holding its remaining supply of AstraZeneca.

On June 1, NACI said that people have a choice between Moderna or Pfizer even if their first dose was AstraZeneca. However, the panel said if you received an mRNA shot as your first dose, you should be given an mRNA as your second shot.

Last week, B.C. officially announced that people who took AstraZeneca as their first dose could get the same for their second dose or choose either of the mRNA vaccine brands Pfizer or Moderna.
