Record of Fastest Travel Time on Vancouver’s SkyTrain System Broken

Vancouver, BC (WNews)- One Of the largest transit systems in Canada had it record broken just after weeks after the original record was started. WNews bumped into Jamie doing the record straight on the Evergreen Extension which is part of the Millennium Line run by Translink. The group started at VCC-Clark as Jamie Han joined by Millennium, Jack, and Randy. Tibo was an independent witness to help verify the time. Jamie travelled to Coquitlam and then back to Lougheed Station to the Expo Line which opened in 1984 for the World’s Expo in 86. The group travelled to Columbus Station to transfer to the Surrey Leg then to Waterfront Station. The last part was to transfer to Canada Line to Bridgeport and then eventually ending at the airport. Canada Line opened in 2009 for the 2010 Winter Olympics Games.
Jamie told us via text that he had this idea after watching a YouTube channel which showcases a person travelling the London Tube. Jamie has always been interested in Metropolitan systems around the world. Jamie started watching Geoff Marshall where he did a series called ”All the Stations”.

Jamie had come out with the idea last summer and wanted to see how long it would take to travel all three lines. So later last summer, he went up to his friends with the idea which they supported him with that idea and started doing test runs in many conditions including rush hour, weekends. His first attempt was on August 31, 2017, which he told WNews it was more just for fun. 

One of the requirements of submitting to Guinness World Records is that they had to film the whole journey with proof. Jamie’s friend has a stopwatch which was required to have a photo taken at each station of Jamie in front of the station name or Wayfinder. There’s was one guy filming with a Canon professional camera. They ended doing a time of 2 hours, 46 minutes and 24 seconds which is currently a unofficial record. Guinness will have to double check the information and the time codes to make sure it’s completely correct.

SkyTrain is part of Translink which operates the transit system across Metro Vancouver. The 3 lines are Expo, Millennium and Canada Line. The whole system is automatic which means no drivers are driving the trains.  The Expo line is the oldest line which opened in the 1980s for Expo86. The Millennium Line which opened in 2002 and expanded in 2015 with the evergreen extension. The Canada line opened in 2009 for the 2010 Winter Olympics connecting Downtown to Richmond and YVR airport.
