British Columbia reports 1,975 new COVID19 cases; 7 day case average declining

Victoria, BC (WNews Vancouver) – British Columbia is seeing the seven-day average of new cases dropping as the Province reports 1,975 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. Two new deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours. Fully vaccinated makes up both the majority of cases and new hospitalization.

There are 37,167 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

Since 2020, B.C. has had more than 300,000 cases, reaching 301,121 on Tuesday. The province, last Tuesday reported  2,239 new cases of COVID-19.

The province continues to record the highest number of people in hospitals since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with another 35 admitted in the past 24 hours.

There are now 854 people in hospitals with the virus and 112 patients in intensive care — a jump of 13 people.

258,417 people who tested positive since the start of the pandemic have recovered.

The majority of the new hospitalization in the past two weeks have been fully vaccinated accounting for 67.7 per cent, while unvaccinated accounted for just 27 per cent.

There have been an additional two deaths, bringing that total to 2,492 since the start of the pandemic.

At the press conference update on Tuesday, Dr. Bonnie Henry mentioned that the province has not reached the daily maximum PCR testing allowance of 20,000 tests except for one day

Gyms and Group fitness are allowed to reopen on January 20s with capacity limits.

The province extended all other restrictions, including the 50-per-cent capacity limit for all venues, and keeping bars and clubs closed, until they are reviewed on Feb. 16.

Healthcare Facilities Outbreaks

There have been nine new health-care facility outbreaks at CareLife Fleetwood, Menno Hospital, Buchanan Lodge, St. Michael’s Centre, Eden Care Centre (Fraser Health); Village at Smith Creek (Interior Health); Veterans Memorial Lodge, Sunset Lodge and Sidney Care Home (Island Health). The outbreaks at Eagle Ridge Hospital, The Oxford Senior Care Home, Chartwell Crescent Gardens, AgeCare Harmony Court (Fraser Health), Selkirk Seniors Village and Selkirk Village Assisted Living (Island Health) have been declared over, for a total of 53 facilities with ongoing outbreaks, including:
