Scientists view old-growth forests through lichens to understand their value

Scientists say defining the biodiversity of a forest by the age of the trees is an oversimplification. Two lichenologists are trying to understand the health of woodland ecosystems by studying lichens and mosses to identify areas for protection from logging.
