Lead GOP negotiator on gun safety expresses concern over lingering issues as lawmakers race to finalize deal

Senate negotiators are scrambling to hammer out legislative text for a long-sought bipartisan gun deal, but they are in danger of missing a self-imposed, end-of-the-week deadline due to lingering sticking points.

Texas Sen. John Cornyn, the chief GOP negotiator, told CNN two key issues – funding for state red flag laws and denying firearms to unmarried partners convicted of domestic violence – have not been ironed out and expressed concerns that could delay efforts to finalize bill text this week.
