B.C Reports Recorded of 1,474 Cases and 6 deaths from COVID19

Health Minister Adrian Dix and Chief Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry provide an update on COVID-19 on December 21, 2021.

Victoria, BC (WNew Vancouver) – BC has broken another COVID19 record with 1,474 new cases being reported in the last 24 hours. That brings the total cases of COVID19 in the province to 231,117 cases since January 2020. ICU and hospitalizations are trending downwards.

There are 7,253 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 221,280 people who tested positive have recovered. Of the active cases, 187 individuals (down 5 from 192 since Tuesday) are in hospital and 71 (down 5 from 76 since Tuesday) are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

The province has reported 6 new deaths reported in the past 24 hours. The province will provide an update on the number of Omicron in Thursday’s update. There have been no new healthcare facility outbreaks. The 1 current outbreak is at Lions Gate Hospital (Vancouver Coastal Health).

In the past week, fully vaccinated accounted for 71.7% (up 2.7% since Tuesday’s Update) of new cases, while not vaccinated accounted for 27% (down 2.4) of new cases. Partially vaccinated accounted for just 1.3% (no change) of the new cases. From Dec. 7-20, not fully vaccinated accounted for 70.5% (down 1.2% since Tuesday’s update) of hospitalizations.

The Province has administered 9,219,326 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines since December 2020.
