Government hopes $15 million for more sheriffs will address court delays

In a $55 billion budget, $5 million may not look like much.

But the B.C. government is hoping the infusion of money for increasing the number of court sheriffs and increasing staffing of the Court Services Branch will go a long way in addressing wait times in courthouses.

“It’s money to fund an additional class of sheriffs at B.C.’s Justice Institute, which is a really big deal. It brings the number of sheriffs we graduate in a year to 72,” said Attorney General David Eby.
