“(I) walk into the car, and I find this gentleman who is slumped over on his seat. His chest to his knees, arms dangling down to the floor,” Bartsch said. “His lips were bluer than my shirt …so I know he’s not breathing. Right away, I look for a carotid pulse. There wasn’t. One thing to do, and one thing to do only. Start doing CPR. I get on the radio, ‘CPR in progress,’ and I just start going.”
