Lethbridge police are reminding dog owners to keep their animals under control after an officer plunged into an icy river to help two people and their dogs to shore after the animals chased a deer into the water.

No one was seriously injured in the incident, which happened around noon on Wednesday at the southern Alberta city’s Peenaquim Park.

The officer responded to the area after receiving a report that four dogs were attacking a deer near the park’s off-leash area.

Police said the dogs’ owners tried to restrain the dogs but they managed to break free and attack the deer, which was
