OTTAWA (WNEWS)— With the pandemic restrictions loosening, Canada is set to open up its borders to international tourists as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the federal government plans to welcome back international visitors.
Trudeau feels that there is tremendous interest from international tourists who wish to come to Canada because the vaccination rates and case counts are better compared to other countries.
Talking virtually at the St. John board of trade event Justin Trudeau said, “We need to make sure that travelers are vaccinated — are fully vaccinated — before they come to Canada because we don’t want to risk further outbreaks. A fourth wave would be devastating to not just the economy, but to morale.”
Border restrictions have been in place since the start of the widespread pandemic and while he did not mention a timeline for when this will be relaxed he said that keeping all Canadians safe will drive the government’s policies.
“We know there are still challenges with variants, including the Delta variant, that is causing a whole bunch of concern not just in India but also in the U.K. these days, and other places around the world. We really need to make sure that we’re keeping everyone safe,” he said.
