San Jose Sharks forward Patrick Marleau surpassed Gordie Howe on the NHL’s all-time games played list Monday during a game against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Howe, who played until the age of 51, had held the record since 1980. Known as Mr. Hockey, Howe played 26 seasons in the NHL and six in the Western Hockey Association.
Though it was on the road, an exuberant pro-Golden Knights crowd gave Marleau a rousing welcome during warmups.
