OTTAWA — This afternoon, the federal government is expected to unveil its spending plans to manage the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and outline an economic recovery in post-pandemic Canada.
This budget is the Liberal’s first in two years and is expected to draft the government’s plans for a national child-care system, include measures to boost the supply of affordable housing and money aimed at greening the economy.
The government will need to find confidence votes from at least one other major party to support the plan in the House of Commons.
The virus has led to a host of economic restrictions and closures that affected every single industry in one way or the other causing a slide in the employment rate.
The deficit for 2020 is estimated to be $380 billion.
