Vancouver, BC – Eighty six new cases of COVID-19 have appeared over the past two days, according to Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.
This brings the total number of British Columbians who are confirmed to have the disease to 970.
Henry said there were two new deaths, bringing that total to 19, and 106 are in hospital.
Of those in hospital, 60 are in the intensive care unit.
Four hundred and sixty nine have recovered, representing 48 per cent of all cases. The new figure of 970 cases is a 10 per cent increase over the figure released on Saturday.
Dr. Henry said first novel coronavirus (COVID-19)-related death in the community had occurred and it was within the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. The man died in his residence, and not in a health-case facility.
B.C. Government Waving Parking Fees
B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix said that all pay-parking had been suspended as of April 1 at all hospitals so that people coming and going would not be using touch pads. This comes after doctors and nurses complained of getting parking tickets after working long shifts. Some staff has even left during the middle of caring for patients to go and repay for new parking time.
He said that 53 per cent of critical care beds in B.C. are occupied. That figure is usually over 100 per cent, however, the number of critical care beds has increased.
